Greek Maidens Georgian Fireplace
The original, now in the Senate Room of Robert Adam's Old College, was the first made for one of the prestigious houses of Edinburgh's George Square, built in the 1760s on land which the Adam family had owned.
These Southside developments were shomething of an architectural laboratory for the sons of William Adam. Their neoclassical style, once perfected, was then applied in Edinburgh New Town and London schemes such as Fitzroy Square, as well as numerous country houses and public buildings.
